Chocolate Diamonds

What are Chocolate Diamonds?

Chocolate diamond is a modern name for traditional brown diamonds. To be more precise it belongs to the family of brown diamonds, but has some distinguished features. Chocolate diamonds usually have a very light touch of orangy and they are not very dark.

The grades of Chocolate diamonds with GIA can vary. Below are the most popular color variations:

Fancy Brown, Fancy Deep Brown, Fancy Deep Orangy Brown, Fancy Deep Yellowish Brown.

Other shades of brown diamonds with a stronger brown color are usually called cognac and graded by GIA as Dark. There is an extremely large variety of shades of brown diamonds and their color can vary from very light brown until very dark brown. They are also called by other trendy names like Cinnamon (reddish brown), Cognac (variety of brown diamond with warm reddish golden-brown), Champagne (light in color with a slightly reddish cast), Honey (yellow-orange touch), Caramel, etc… The stronger the color – the more expensive the diamond!

Why is Chocolate Jewelry becoming more and more popular?

In recent years chocolate diamonds have made a very quick and successful way to the market the reason being the low cost of this diamond and the noble look.

Chocolate diamonds are given an incompatible look when set with small white diamonds and the chocolate diamond is used as a solitaire, or vice versa. The contrast combination of two colors creates a very exclusive look. A combination of the various shades of brown diamonds set in one jewelry (the so called chocolate rings, earrings, bracelets, pendants, brooch, etc…) has become especially trendy. This kind of jewelry is becoming very popular due to its relatively low cost and the fashionable designs. One of the recent market tendencies is to use chocolate diamonds for wedding rings that allows young couples both to save money and to go for more creative design.

The growing popularity of chocolate diamonds is a good example of how the current economic situation influences the diamond market and the disappearance of the previously existing stigma about brown diamonds that were considered "cheap".

Many celebrities such as Vanessa Hudgens and Jennifer Lopez have been seen lately wearing fashionable jewelry with chocolate diamonds. These diamonds mainly come from the Argyle mine in Australia , Africa and Russia .
